Cloud & Agentic Engineering Practitioner Focused on platform engineering, AI agents, intelligent automation, and reliable

About
Mike Hyland

I do Platform Engineering. This is a polite way of saying I spend a great deal of time making sure other people can deploy things without accidentally setting everything on fire.

I lead the design of cloud-native platforms, delivery pipelines, and automation, or as the industry prefers, "resilient systems that empower development teams through scalable infrastructure and platform engineering best practices." Oof!

Lately I've been drawn to AI-powered automation and agentic engineering, which is either the future of software or an elaborate way to rename scripts that used to be called cron jobs. Either way, I'm interested in how intelligent agents and modern tooling might genuinely help engineers.

Python remains my language of choice, mostly because life is too short to write YAML by hand when you can write Python that generates YAML and then quietly resent both, while my coding agent does it under 10 seconds, which give me some additional time to ask what all of this even means. Then decide Node may be a better choice.

Beyond platform engineering, I still enjoy building web applications and technical solutions, ideally ones that work on the first try, though I've learned not to expect that.
